Summer Tree Care Tips

Looking for ways to take care of your trees this summer? Here are some Summer Tree Care tips to help ensure healthy and happy trees!

Tip #1 – Inspect the trees on your property to see if you have any dead branches (hangers), insects, or issues that seem out of the ordinary.

Tip #2 – Prune! Make sure you remove all of the deadwood from your tree. This will help it grow healthier, it is less of a risk for falling on your property, and it may let in more light to your gardens/play areas.

Tip #3 – Protect your trees from severe weather (like wind/thunder storms) by properly cabling and bracing any weak branches or newly planted trees that would be susceptible to bad weather.

Tip #4 – Water your trees! If you have a newly planted tree, it is important to water it while it is trying to establish its roots. If you have mature trees (2 years +), they will be hardier, but it is also good to give them some water if the weather is extremely dry for long periods of time. Mulching around your tree will also help to retain some moisture.

Tip #5 – Fertilizing your tree is an important step to help keep it healthy. The ideal time to start is in the spring, but you can fertilize over the summer as well if you see that the tree is struggling.
