Why you should remove the stump after a tree removal

Leaving a tree stump behind might seem harmless, but there are several good reasons to remove the stump:

1. Prevents regrowth

Many tree species will try to sprout again from the stump, leading to unwanted shoots and potential future removal costs.

2. Stops pest infestations

Old stumps can attract insects like termites, carpenter ants, and beetles – which can eventually spread to nearby healthy trees or even your home.

3. Improves safety

Stumps can be tripping hazards, especially in lawns, play areas, or walkways.  Removing them helps prevent accidents.

4. Protects nearby trees

Rotting stumps can harbour fungi or diseases that spread to surrounding trees and plants.

5. Boosts curb appeal and usability

A stump can be an eyesore in your yard and limit your ability to replant, mow, or landscape.  Removal gives you back a clean, usable space.

6. Avoids future damage

Some stumps can send out roots that interfere with driveways, foundations, or underground utilities if left unchecked.
